What are the responsibilities of the School Board?

According to the By-Laws of the ISB Association of Parents, the School Board has four key responsibilities:

As a parent, how can I be involved?

You can attend monthly Board meetings to better understand the issues. You can direct your concerns to the various committees set up to focus on specific areas. To find out what issues are being discussed, you can review the minutes of the Board meetings and Board committee meetings, which are available in the HS/MS Library. The role of the Board committees is to listen to the concerns of the community, research the topics, and make recommendations to the Board.

Do the committees make decisions on school policies?

No. The committees simply make recommendations to the Board. All policy decisions are made by the Board of Trustees after considering committee advice, presented through reports and recommendations.

Who serves on these Board committees?

Parents, teachers and Board members all serve on the committees. Interested parents are encouraged to volunteer for service on a committee. To volunteer for committee membership, contact the committee chair or the Head of School's office. If a specific topic is of personal interest, you may also attend any committee meeting as a guest.
