About the ISB Board of Trustees

The ISB Board of Trustees is a 12-member group of volunteer parents, elected by the ISB Association of Parents, who oversee the operation of ISB according to the Association's Bylaws [pdf, 82KB]. All parents with children attending ISB automatically belong to the Association.

The Board is responsible for:

 

Each year the Board sets goals to fulfill its responsibilities. In 2009/10 the Board has three goals:

  1. Ensure the implementation of the Strategic Plan

  2. Enhance the efforts for sustainability at ISB by:

    a. renewing the hiring and retention strategy for 2010-2012
    b. establishing an endowment fund and purpose
    c. developing recommendations for improving ISB’s brand image outside Beijing
    d. looking beyond the walls to continue improvement of warm and welcoming facilities to enhance the educational experience at ISB

  3. Enhance Board effectiveness by:

    a. strengthening trustee knowledge of best practices in international school governance,
    b. implementing meeting and other operating structures to enhance Board knowledge and oversight,
    c. strengthening trustee recruitment, development and retention to ensure continuity of Board leadership

  4. Ensure an effective transition for the new Head of School

The Board holds regular monthly meetings and members of the ISB community are invited to attend the open sessions.

The Board has established three standing committees in 2008/09. These are: Futures Committee, Resources Committee and Trustee Development Committee. One Board member serves as the chair of each committee and is assisted by a representative from the school administration, as well as other trustees, parent and faculty representatives.
